Using Downtime Empty Using Downtime

Terameya uses Downtime rules, as can be found here.



All downtime activities are to recorded in #downtime-records along with the result of any die-rolls so that GMs can track it. If you need to roll a die for any check outside of a session, please do so in #bot-stuff with the command below

Time


Time in Infinitum moves at a faster rate than it does in our own world at a ratio of 4 -1. This is important to keep in mind while recording your downtime.


Downtime XP


When using the "Earn XP" function in downtime, note that you can only earn a quarter of the XP (rounded up) as if you had defeated an opponent whose CR was equal to your character level per in-game day.



Research


Research is an integral part of Infinitum. Characters can research concepts for spell-hacking, new creations, or in-game plot elements. If there is something that you would like to research, DM a Senior Architect or Mod with the information that you would like researched. They will give you a skill check you will make each day and the DC for that skill check, along with how many days in a row that check must succeed. In rare cases, (such as when studying a material that you have a limited amount of) they may also give a limited number of failed checks. These may or may not be consecutive. If you fail too many checks, it may result in loss of materials or worse consequences. You will always be given a vague idea of what those consequences might be.


Spellhacking Research


Absent formal training, it is largely up to the individual hacker to forge their own path through the world of magic.  There are no formal lists of words, instead requiring the hacker to research their own spell words, mostly from scratch.  The hacker will be required to spend some amount of time and/or money, which will award them with what’s known as “Free Research”. This free research is usually spent immediately after gaining it, at which point there is no penalty, however a hacker may choose to hold onto his research and spend it at a later time, where they will be required to spend a token amount of time refreshing themselves on the research before getting to spend it.

When a hacker spends their research, they will choose a preferred spell level, a school of magic and three separate words having to do with the desired effect.  Based on these criteria, they will receive a new complete wordspell.  They learn all unknown words from the wordspell.
